  • How often does the Raymond Island ferry depart from Paynesville?
    The ferry runs every 20 minutes and the last ferry from Raymond Island to Paynesville is around 11 pm daily.
  • Do I need to book?
    We do not take bookings on advertised opening days. If you wish to hire a bike other days contact us to make a booking.
  • Do I need to bring my car over on the ferry?
    We recommend you leave your car in Paynesville. There is ample, unrestricted parking behind the hotel on the esplanade. Ride the Koalas and the koala trail is just 2 minutes walk from the ferry on Raymond Island. Pedestrian travel is free. Cars cost $13 return.
  • How many koalas are on Raymond Island?
    The population is around 300. A count and health check is conducted annually.
  • What other animals will I see?
    Other than koalas, the most common sightings are of echidnas and kangaroos. There is also a spectacular array of native and coastal birds.
  • How long will a Koala Trail ride take?
    Most people spend about 50-60 minutes on the trail. This allows ample time for photographs and exploration.
  • Can I explore the island on the surrey bike?
    Many people hire bikes for this purpose. You would need to allow at least 2 hours. You cannot take the bikes into the bush, on the boardwalk, or onto the beaches.
  • Can I touch the koalas?
    Our koalas are wild and are not trained for human contact. It is strongly recommended that visitors NOT touch the koalas. It causes them stress and they can bite and scratch.
  • Can I bring my dog?
    To protect our unique wildlife, dogs must be on a lead at all time.
  • Are there any shops on Raymond Island?
    No, you should purchase drinks, food and BYO bug spray in summer in Paynesville prior to travelling on the ferry.
